There actually aren’t that many places along Perth’s gorgeous metropolitan coast that you can eat, drink + hang out directly on the beach… but Cottesloe is one of them, and it’s one of our best too. This coastal drawcard has been a playground for the rich + the aspiring to be rich for a long time. Well, a long time by Perth’s standards, which is less than 200 years old. It’s our most popular city beach… behind City Beach, which you can check out here, and it’s about halfway between Fremantle [Perth’s port city] + [is about 15minutes drive from] Perth’s CBD.

> I used to work here at Indiana’s, the big restaurant that hovers right over the beach. Not sure what the food is like these days but the location is epic, so worth a trip. There’s great grassed areas either side which spill down onto snow white beach sand + unbelievably clear water. We are seriously spoilt. There are surf clubs nearby, fish + chips, cafes, gelato + all that, even a golf course that’s a few metres away from the ocean… But it’s well worth a wander up into the suburb to check out the houses – the creme de la creme of Perth’s coastal built form. There are some serious monsters, new + old. Woweeee.

After you head into the suburbs, come back down to the water + have a drink. Cottesloe is famous for its Sunday Session, which is basically a Sunday afternoon-into-evening of drinks and socialising at either the Cott Hotel or the Ocean Beach Hotel. Both pubs are on Marine Parade just across the road from the beach. You can’t come to Perth without seeing Cott. The end.
