I’m Perth-born + female. I started this site January 2014 as a hobby. J’adore looking at houses of all kinds + how trivial fragments [when added up together] provide a snapshot of life in that pocket, both now and then. The types of swings in the front yard say so much, the predominant colours that thread through the area, the layout of the blocks, the idiosyncratic objects on doorsteps + window sills, the roof tiles + the types of plants > all this creates a suburb. I love the mundane, the common, the everyday and the unexceptional. I like lines + balance, colour + shape, harmony + disharmony, shadows + light. It’s the little things. Photography – to me – doesn’t have to be pretentious or particularly intellectual. Most of the shots just try + sum up the place for you – in whatever way i think will work at the time! Some i like because they’re beautiful, some i just like.
I live right on the border between Perth’s CBD and the northern fringing suburb of Perth. In this life, I cannot think of many better things to do than ramble around, coffee in hand, lining up shots of random suburbs with my guy + my pup. Every angle, line, shadow and off-key tilt you see is purposeful > Sometimes I think I’m actually a little OCD which seems to assist me in capturing images. This site isn’t about history or social commentary. Feel free to just look at the photos and not think, for once in life.
When I travelled Europe back in 2007, I started taking shots on my shitty old point n’ shoot. I became obsessed, came back + bought increasingly better cameras. I started this website as my shots were just ‘gathering dust’ sitting on my hard drive. There’s a few travel shots – just because I love travelling + taking photos. There aren’t many suburbs from overseas as I only just decided to do that on my 2014 travels thru Japan – cannot wait to add more from everywhere I go.
> I’ve only just scratched the surface of my local + international collection, so come back soon, cheers!
